JALALABAD AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (2 April) – Five Afghans were killed and 10 wounded during a suicide vehicle borne improvised explosive device attack near Forward Operating Base Mehtar Lam, April 1. The dead include three young girls. Six Afghan National Army soldiers were among the wounded. Three boys were among the injured. Two of the wounded children and one of the wounded ANA soldiers were evacuated to an ISAF medical facility. Another victim was taken to the Mehtar Lam hospital for treatment. The attack occurred as Gov. Gulab Mangal, the Mehtar Lam provincial governor, Afghan National Security Forces, ISAF partners from Task Force Iron Grays and the Mehtar Lam Provincial Reconstruction Team worked to rescue flood victims in Qarghayee. “That terrorists are murdering children while Governor Mangal and his team, along with Afghan and ISAF are trying to help people during a natural disaster speaks for itself,” said Maj Eric Zenk, Task Force Spartan spokesman. “We’re doing everything we can to help the Afghan government take care of the victims of this unspeakable act.” The number killed includes the attacker. |
