KUNDUZ, Afghanistan (2 April) – A new project to improve the education situation was started in Kunduz City, Kunduz province, March 31. Building this girls’ secondary school - including a section dedication for teachers’ further training - is a part of German development aid, supported by the civilian element of the Kunduz Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).

The German KfW-Bankengruppe will spend a minimum of US$160.000 to build the two-storied building. Similar projects are planned or have already begun in other districts of Kunduz and Takhar provinces.

Present at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the new Naswane-se-Darek school was the German Minister, President of Rhineland-Palatinate, Kurt Beck. Mr Beck announced at the ceremony that he would donate two volleyball fields worth US$900 for this and another similar project.

“Education for the people at all levels is one of the keys to success in rebuilding the country, so I appreciate being here with all these people from Afghanistan, the Civilian Development and the PRT; all working together on this project,” Mr Beck outlined during his visit.
