Afghanistan has never officially recognized a 19th century British demarcation known as the Durrand line as its border with Pakistan.
The Durand line became Pakistan's internationally recognized border through the partition of British Colonial India in 1947.The government in Kabul is opposed to efforts by Pakistan to build a security fence along the frontier to stop cross-border movement by Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants.
Afghan and Pakistan troops clashed in April when Afghan border guards dismantled parts of the newly erected security fence.
