KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - ISAF Commander, General Dan McNeil, yesterday visited Regional Command - South (RC-S) to review the continuing progress made by ISAF troops in Northern Helmand. The visit follows General McNeil’s recent visit to RCS in March of this year, when he visited ISAF and Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in Uruzgan at the outset of Operation Achilles.

Upon his arrival at NATO’s Kandahar Air Field, General McNeil had a brief meeting with Major General Ton van Loon, the Commander of RC-S, before travelling to a Forward Operating Base in Northern Helmand to speak with the ANSF, Danish, UK and USA troops on the ground. After lunch with troops of the US 1st – 508th, he travelled by road to Sangin District Centre where he was met by the new Commander of TF Helmand, Brigadier John Lorimer. General McNeil was given a tour of Sangin District Centre and met with the troops of TF Helmand before returning to Kandahar.

“I was impressed with how much progress has been made during the conduct of operation Achilles,” said General McNeil. “These troops have kicked up a lot of dust in Northern Helmand and I feel blessed and honoured to command such loyal and dedicated forces. Although we still have work to do in Helmand to stabilise the region, I am satisfied that Operation Achilles is delivering the results we want,” he added.
